For those of us in Taiwan, Singapore seems like a country that's far away and yet so close, familiar but not without her mystery. Our first impression may be her neatness, the friendly citizens, a trace of relaxation of countries from Southeast Asia, and the fast pace of a modern city. This tiny melting pot of mainly Chinese and some Malay and Indian people has been an example of modernized country for fellow Asian countries in the past few decades. And of course, aside from Hong Kong, Singapore is another country of impressive international perspective, given the influence of British culture and the country's special marine economy.
